Here is a collection of games the whole family can play together.
Family game time is a good way to talk about your day
and sneak in a little math practice!
Knock Out
Supplies: 2 dice and pen & paper to keep score
Play: Roll two dice and add them together: If the sum is anything but 7, record score. If the sum is 7, all previous scores are knocked out leaving a score of 0. Play 10 rounds.
Winning Knock Out: At the end of the ten rounds, the player with the highest remaining score is the winner.
Fifty
Supplies: 2 dice per player
Object: first player to get to fifty points.
Play: Everyone rolls their dice at the same time.
Only doubles score points.
Scoring: Six = 25 points, Five = 5 points, Four = 5 points, Three = lose all points, Two = 5 points, One – 5 points
Winning Fifty: The player who scores fifty points first is the winner.
Stuck in the Mud
Supplies: 5 dice, pen & paper
Play: Roll all five dice: If a two or five are rolled, score is 0 and all the 2s and 5s are stuck in the mud and set aside. If no 2s or 5s are rolled, add all the dice for the score.
Roll all dice that are not stuck in the mud. Again any dice that show 2 or 5 are stuck in the mud and set aside and 0 is added to the score.
If no 2s or 5s, the dice are added to the existing score.
A players turn is over when all of their dice are stuck in the mud.
Winning: The player who is the first to 100 points is the winner.
Beat That
Best played as a two player game.
Supplies: 3 dice per player & pen and paper to score.
Play: First player rolls dice and adds them together. He announces the sum and challenges “Beat That.” The second player rolls the three dice and adds together the dice.
The highest scores gets one point.
Winning Beat That: The first player to 10 wins.
Ants
Supplies: 2 dice and a pen & paper to keep score
Object: Beat the ants to the picnic.
Set up: Write ants on one side of the scoresheet and people on the other side of the sheet.
Play: On your turn, roll the dice. If it is doubles, then the sum of the dice is added to the ants’ side of the scoresheet.
If the roll was not doubles, the sum is added to the people’s
side of the scoresheet.
Winning Ants: To win ants, beat the ants to a score of 100 or more. If the ants get to 100 before the people, the ants win.
Everest
Supplies: 3 dice, Score sheet with numbers 1 to 12 and
12 to 1 for each player
Play: Roll three dice. Use the number rolled or add the dice together to mark off the numbers on the sheet.
Each dice can only be used once per turn. One roll per turn.
Winning: To win Everest, you need to be the first player to cross off all of your numbers.
